Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre - OPEN

Matthew Cahill, Collections Learning Manager writes: -

This week saw our 4 Museums reopen after months of lock down. Its not just the Queens House, The Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum that have reopened but our conservation and collection centre has lots of community projects and activities ready for you to see and do. At the Prince Phillip Maritime Collection Centre we don’t just see our selves as a space for storing and looking after the nations collection. We consider our selves as a community hub for learning and engagement, so arrange a visit!

Tours

The Prince Phillip Maritime collection centre is home to the National Maritime collection and this half term our doors (31 May to 5 June) will be open for our new tour called Toy Stories. This Family friendly tour will show you a range of special toys in our collection from board games, unique footballs to a toy that was once on the Titanic. These tours have been designed to be booked for one support bubble of six people at a time, to ensure you feel safe on your visit.

Community Garden

Over the past few months, we have created a community garden with our volunteers. We hope this community garden will be used by our local community in Kidbrooke to learn about where food comes from and the cultural importance of specific vegetables and plants. The Garden is open to local Kidbrooke residents on Saturday afternoons from 1pm- 3pm. Please email ppmcc@rmg.co.uk if you would like to participate.

Installation of Mural

As well as creating new tours, sessions, and activities we have also been busy working with local school Newhaven to create a mural alongside our side entrance. The learners have creatively worked with art collective The Cube to create an engaging design that informs the local community about the important objects that are kept and looked after on site.

Please keep an eye out for it as it is installed at the end of this month…

We look forward to seeing you all soon.
